Calling all Former Pupils!

Since the summer of 2002, the School, which is now 40 years old, has sought to re-establish its links with former pupils and their parents by contacting as many of them as it can. In an initial mailshot to over 1000 individuals, the School sent out a newsletter detailing its plans to build on its relationship with those who have experienced the School in the past and providing news and information about the School as it is now.

The newsletter also contained the reminiscences of a number of former pupils from across the years which the School has been in existence.

Utilising a database compiled over the years by the School’s original founder and headteacher, Mrs Younger, and with further additions since her retiral in 1992, the School hoped to make contact with as many of its former pupils as possible.

The present headteacher, Mr Becher, writes:

‘I have constantly been struck by the deep affection with which former pupils seem to remember their time at the School, be it at Holy Trinity Church Hall, where the School spent its first years, or at Somnerfield Lodge, West Road, where the School has been present since 1967. Former pupils with whom I have met talk with great fondness of the teachers who guided them through their first steps in formal schooling and set them on the road to further success. They also remember the many activities which engaged young minds and for many, helped to develop a lifelong love of learning.

We hope that we will be able to update the details we currently hold so that we can contact our former pupils and parents both now and in the future, to keep them abreast of developments within the School, as well as to provide opportunities for former pupils and parents to re-visit their old school and perhaps to meet up with other former class-mates, parents and even former teachers!

The task of entering all this information electronically and updating it as far as possible has been formidable. Nevertheless, we are very hopeful that our initial mailing will make it into the hands of a large number of our former pupils and their parents. We are also asking those to whom we send, to return a postcard to us providing us with up to date details so that we can contact them more easily in the future'.

The initial mailing saw us receive over 200 replies and the School is asking any former pupils or parents who did not receive this mailing to contact the School by telephoning 01620 822642 by email, office@thecompassschool.co.uk, or by filling in the contact form below.

It was fascinating to hear from Compass F.P.s from around the globe, from Australia to Canada, from Hong Kong to Zimbabwe all delighted to hear from their former school and wishing to hear more about developments at the School.

In the months to come, we will be investigating the possibility of holding a reunion for Compass F.P.s to provide them with the opportunity to come back and visit their old school and meet up with old friends.
